Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Peritoneal mesothelioma occurs in the abdominal cavity, by infiltrating the liver, spleen or the bowel. Pain is the most common presenting complaint and additionally due to accumulated fluid in the abdominal cavity (ascites), the abdomen will appear enlarged. Patients will experience vomiting, nausea, fever, swelling of their feet, and difficulty in bowel movement. The prognosis is not as good than for pleural mesothelioma with a median survival time of approximately 10 months from the onset of symptoms.
